La Siembra

Para la Naturaleza achieves largest reforestation activity to date and distributes over 25,000 trees at this year’s La Siembra. In line with this year’s reforestation objectives, Para la Naturaleza organized two significant events: a tree planting for employees and a massive tree distribution at La Siembra.

The first event took place on Saturday, September 10 at Hacienda La Esperanza Nature Reserve as part of the closing activities of the Reforestation and Habitat Enhancement of Hacienda La Esperanza Nature Reserve project, sponsored in part by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

This event included 182 Para la Naturaleza employees and is the most significant reforestation activity to date. This was a culmination of the project that seeks to build the resilience of coastal communities through the restoration and strengthening of natural infrastructure. Our team planted over 5,000 trees to enhance the habitat of coastal, wetland, and riparian forests at Hacienda La Esperanza. This massive organizational effort helped us reach and exceed our initial goal of planting 50,000 trees.

The second event – La Siembra – took place on November 4 and 5 and is part of our Reforestation Unit’s mission to spark an ecological movement by integrating and educating citizens about reforestation. Para la Naturaleza set up six delivery points where we distributed 25,000 native and endemic trees. In addition to employees, 56 volunteer leaders participated in the event, including 8 Citizen Botanists and 10 Citizen Scientists who helped give visitors their trees and manage organic waste.

These trees will be planted and cared for by citizens committed to reforestation. Each tree planted is registered in the Hábitat PLN mobile application that can be downloaded for free on any smartphone. In addition to recording their plantings, people have access to an extensive tree guide, video tutorials on how to grow trees correctly, and recommendations for proper tree care.
